What’s New

– added more Spin-A-Bingo rooms
– new way to view game stats, players can now view more game details for BOTH games. this also shows how many games are required to e.g. play more bingo cards and get more chat icons/smileys. the player profile is still limited, ie players can only view their own game stats, but eventually this will be extended so everyone can view the stats of other players (among other additional features)
– installed some updated server software, and moved some things around (server-side)

What’s New

– added more Spin-A-Bingo rooms, since I am now allowing a lot more players to beta-test the game
– merged/removed some bingo rooms, I know this will (again) create some complaints, but I really have to do some player balancing. One room takes up a significant amount of server resources, so I really have to cut down on those bingo rooms which do not have enough players anymore (especially because many more are now playing Spin-A-Bingo instead). This way, the machine will not be overloaded (and crashes can be prevented). This should also result to bigger jackpots, since there will actually be more players in the room contributing to the pot/jackpot.

A few players in the higher-level rooms have asked why I did not cut down the rooms in the lower level rooms. Well I actually removed 7 rooms there already, but the cuts have been spread over a couple of days so they hardly noticed it. The new ranges reflect better distribution of players among all the rooms, based on CURRENT bingo game stats of ALL the players right now.

I just ordered a new computer again, in anticipation of more players coming in when Spin-A-Bingo goes out of beta, so I can also better distribute all the load. It will also serve as a back-up machine in case something goes wrong again with one of the main servers. I’d rather spend more money than risk the stability of the site and the games. Hopefully it will be worth it.

Lastly, those who are asking why their Spin-A-Bingo games are not being added to their bingo game totals, there is a SEPARATE Spin-A-Bingo game count but it is not seen in your Profiles yet. I am still working on this so you can see all your totals for each game, as well as being able to view other players’ game stats. Lots of things to do…

Happy Birthday HeyBingo!

September 26th, 2005: Filed under  by Alexander Catapang @ 2:42 pm

This month marks the first year anniversary of the HeyBingo site. How time flies!

As my “birthday gift” to the site and all its loyal players, I vowed to finish the new game Spin-A-Bingo within the month, and I’m glad that I was able to achieve this personal goal. The game has been open for beta-testing for about 2 weeks now, and while some problems are still being ironed out, response has been very positive so far.

Looking back, a year ago, I have decided to make my own gaming site, taking some very big risks. The response was very overwhelming, at a rate that I myself found surprising. There has been ups and downs along the way. There are more vocal players who usually complain of something I did (or did not do) on the site. In fact, there are a few players who probably don’t forget to e-mail me once a month, just telling me how the site stinks (and other mean words you can’t imagine), or those who threaten to leave if I don’t do this or that. I just take it in stride, and just be happy with the fact that based on the number of people still playing, there is a silent majority who still appreciates what I am doing on the site.

And that is what this site is all about in the first place. I am gamer at heart, and while bingo is not really the kind of game I play myself (I’d rather play games on the PS2 ;-)), destiny brought me to the bingo industry. This site is my way of touching other people’s lives, through my own games. I am not here to please everyone, as that is impossible to achieve, but for those who are still here playing, I know that somehow, I have contributed something that they enjoy at their leisure time. That is more than enough encouragement for me to continue what I am doing.

Anyway, let me just thank everyone who have supported, and continues to support, HeyBingo. As usual, I have a lot of plans for the site. While I have been rather slow the past few months with new developments, things are starting to pick up again, and you can expect better things ahead.

Here’s to more fruitful years ahead for HeyBingo. Cheers everyone! 😎

Spin-A-Bingo updates:
– added new room
– fixed game # not being recorded properly in 2 of the rooms, which also incorrectly resets the bonus of players in the room when it gets restarted
– added and enabled an experimental jackpot system, now based on the final score

What’s New

– fixed a bug in Spin-A-Bingo where a player can earn erroneous extra scores during the 1st spin, still have to verify if this completely solved the problem or if there are still some things I haven’t covered yet
– also fixed a potential related issue in the regular bingo game

– fixed a buy-event bug in Spin-A-Bingo game, also temporarily disabled jackpot until I figure out a better system to replace it (full card is too hard to get per player, but also occurs frequently as a whole with enough players in the room using the current odds)
– opened more Spin-A-Bingo rooms
– added a way for the game clients to internally log some potential game bugs
– LOTS of changes for the implementation of “real” player levels. this is currently for internal use only (players don’t see their actual levels yet), until I find a way to make this easier for players to understand. basically, player levels will cover the following:
1. if you are already able to buy e.g. 36 cards in bingo, you will be able to buy 36 cards in ANY room, including the lower level rooms if you wish to play there with your friends (since some of them may be new players and don’t have access to the higher-level rooms yet)
2. if you already have e.g. 60 smileys in your chat icon list, you will have access to ALL 60 smileys in ANY room, including lower level rooms, as well as when playing another game like Spin-A-Bingo. this means some icons can now be sent only if you have them in your list (other players won’t be able to access some higher-level icons, even if they know the smiley tags)
3. your bonus increment and maximum bonus will be carried over to any new game, or even when playing in lower-level rooms

Looking ahead, badges and other chat icons will be given (and can be “bought” with points) as player level increases… but this will still require a lot of work. For now, I am just laying out the groundwork to make all these things happen.

– Spin-A-Bingo: additional score for dabs falling in the pattern
– added read buffer for all incoming socket communications, the previous implementation appears to be receiving incomplete data sometimes, resulting to some potential client hang-ups. it looks like this solved some of the problems being detected server side, although there are still a few areas that need to be examined in more detail
